Distance from Hotel Union Square: 9.6 Miles
Sausalito is a very close day trip from San Francisco via the San Francisco Ferry or the Blue and Gold Fleet departing from Pier 39. The Ferry ride is scenic with great views of San Francisco and takes about 30 minutes.
Sausalito is located at the northern side of Golden Gate Bridge and is home to great small art galleries, waterfront restaurants, coffee shops and trinket shops. A walk along Waterfront Avenue is a great way to see the beautiful boats and the nearly 400 Boat Houses along the way. Take in a dinner at one of the waterfronts restaurants and enjoy a great glass of wine and night views of San Francisco in the distance.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park

If you’re more prone to enjoying a walk among the giant Sequoia Trees, plan to take a drive to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. It is a visually rewarding drive to the park where you will be able to hike through the over 800,000 acres of beautiful, lush forest, wildflowers, greenery and many varieties of trees including the massive Sequoia Trees.

This 90-mile stretch of coastal highway is a great Day Trip from San Francisco, located between Hearst Castle and Carmel-by-the-Sea, two other great choices for Day Trips. Santa Lucia is to the east and the coastline of the Pacific Ocean is to the west of this ruggedly spectacular stretch of State Route 1. There are many things that make for great photo opportunities along the way, Bixby Bridge, Wildflowers, lush greenery, the giant California Condors flying overhead and even playful Sea Otters swimming in the water feeding in the Kelp beds and more. Big Sur is a dream destination for photographers, hikers and anyone who is in love with the outdoors.

Just south of Monterey along the Pacific Coastline, you’ll fall in love with this romantic and hugely popular beach town, Carmel-by-the-Sea. This small beach village is home to great beach themed shops, galleries, restaurants and of course the Carmel Heritage Society Museum. Take a walk along Scenic Bluff Path which is a beautiful pathway of Carmel Beach and Carmel River State Beach. There are several easy walking trails that lead to the coastline and down to the beach.

This beautiful coastal community offers some of the most picturesque seaside views you will ever see. The curves on the 17-mile drive cut along the coast with beautiful coast on one side and the mountainside, Monterey Cypress trees, golf courses, beautiful homes and stately mansions along the way. Spend the day browsing the quaint little shops, art galleries, and stores in downtown Monterey. You’ll have a choice of a number of great restaurants from the smaller, intimate diners to the more, ‘high end’ restaurants. If you have time, it is well worth it to make your way to the beach to walk along the shoreline to take in a wonderful sunset.

Located a short 1-hour drive north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is a very popular Day Trip destination for wine lovers. Napa is a beautiful destination of wineries, rolling hills dotted with over 400 wineries, gourmet restaurants, related wine shops and in town you’ll find art galleries and shops. Enjoy a few winery tours, learn the wine making process and of course enjoy some great wine.
