Event in San Francisco | AIDS Walk
AIDS Walk is an Event in San Francisco that raises millions of dollars for local HIV programs.
Of all of the Events in San Francisco, some consider this to be among the most important. The annual AIDS Walk raises money that is used to support HIV programs in the Bay Area.
About the AIDS Walk:
Each year, about 20,000 participants gather to take part in a 10K walk that benefits the work of several local charity groups. The Event in San Francisco, which began in 1987, has raised $86 million, but there is still much more work to be done.
Some of the organizations that will benefit from this year’s AIDS Walk are Project Inform, Project Open Hand, and Ward 86 at San Francisco General Hospital. All of these groups provide important services to those impacted by HIV. Last year, this Event raised $2.3 million, and organizers are hoping to beat that number this year.
Individuals, teams, and corporations will take part in the walk. There is no registration fee. Instead, all of the money comes from the fundraising efforts of participants. Those unsure about how to go about raising money for the AIDS Walk can find lots of advice on the Event’s website.
While there is no minimum dollar amount that walkers must raise to participate, if you raise at least $1,000 you’ll enjoy all of the perks that go along with being a Star Walker. Individuals, teams, and corporations that raise the most money will also be recognized at the award ceremony at the start of the day’s activities.
The walk begins at 10:30 a.m., but get there a bit early if you’d like to see the award ceremony or participate in the pre-walk aerobic warmup. The KidZone opens at 10:30 a.m., and there is a post-walk concert that begins at 12:30 p.m.
