San Francisco Marathon
July 31, 2016
The actual marathon takes place on July 31st, but this San Francisco Event includes other races, so it’s more appropriate to say “Race Weekend” than “Race Day.” In all, 5 races will be held. They are the full marathon, 2 half marathons, a 5K, and an ultramarathon. A total of 26,000 runners will participate. The pool of runners is huge, but there is a limit on the number of participants in each race.
Since 1977, the San Francisco Marathon has welcomed runners from around the world who want to participate in a race that takes them past iconic landmarks such as beautiful Painted Lady homes and over the Golden Gate Bridge. In addition to the views, runners will also see more than 80,000 spectators all along the route, helping to cheer the runners on to the finish line.
The half marathons and the 5K tend to fill up first, so it’s a good idea to register for the race you want as far in advance as possible. You can register to run individually or as part of a team. The registration fees vary based on the selected race, and all information is available on the San Francisco Event’s website.
The Race Expo is another highlight of the San Francisco Marathon Race Weekend. This San Francisco Event, which takes place July 29th and July 30th, is where runners must pick up their race packets and bibs. The Expo also features lots of useful information about health, nutrition, and fitness.
The race results are typically posted within a day after the race. Race photos follow a few days later. Whether you’ve run in many races or just want to get your feet wet, the San Francisco Marathon is a great choice. If you’re coming from out of town, the consider staying at Hotel Union Square.
